Behind Alexander Abreu
This portrait emerged from my interest in how the presence and energy of a contemporary Cuban musician would unfold on the canvas. The work is based on a well-known image, approached not as a formal portrait but as a starting point for an intuitive painting process.
Without a fixed plan, the portrait developed through drawing and successive layers of mixed media. The focus was on rhythm, expression, and atmosphere rather than precise likeness.
Through this open process, the image gradually found its balance between realism and abstraction, reflecting both the character of the subject and my personal way of working.
This work is part of my ongoing portfolio series, in which the artistic process and a personal, intuitive approach to the subject are central.
