Technique and Material Layers
This portrait, sized 100 x 70 cm (approx. 39 x 27.5 in), was executed using the multi-layered Mixed Media technique I developed. The combination of materials lends the picture a complex texture and depth:
Foundation: The portrait is based on an initial sketch created with charcoal and various pens.
Painting: The main work is done in acrylic paints, which lend the portrait its expressive and color-intensive energy.
Refinement: Additionally, oil paints, collage elements, and sprays were used to emphasize the raw and multi-layered aesthetic of Abstract Realism.
Inspiration and Impact
This portrait is also an expression of the artistic challenge to authentically depict an iconic face. The motivation lay in the deep engagement with Audrey Hepburn's expressions and the observation of her aura to translate her personality and timeless elegance onto the canvas through the intuitive use of color.
As in all my work, the focus here was on the constant search to capture the essence of the depicted figure. This portrait celebrates the figure of the icon and serves as a captivating statement piece for any space or collection.
