Behind Cuban Woman with Cigar
This portrait developed from my interest in how a well-known and symbolic image would translate into a painted presence on canvas. Rather than depicting a specific encounter, the work grew out of broader visual impressions connected to Cuba.
The process began intuitively, without a fixed outcome in mind. Through drawing, layering, and continuous adjustments, the image slowly took shape using mixed-media techniques.
The focus was not on exact representation, but on atmosphere, presence, and character. By allowing the process to remain open, the portrait found its balance between abstraction and realism.
This work is part of my ongoing portfolio series, in which the artistic process and a personal, intuitive approach to the subject are central.
